About the Department of Exercise and Wellness

Our Purpose
At the baccalaureate and master’s degree levels, to prepare practitioners and managers for careers in health, fitness, and wellness.

At the doctoral degree level, to prepare research scholars in physical activity, nutrition, and wellness for careers in higher education, research, and health promotion practice.

Our Mission
Our mission is studying the impact of physical activity on optimal health and wellness through the life span. This encompasses promotion of healthy nutrition, smoking cessation, stress management and successful aging. This mission is achieved by providing excellent:

  • Learning experiences in our classrooms, laboratories, advisement and mentoring
  • Research, scholarship and practice by creating, synthesizing and disseminating knowledge
  • Service and outreach to the local and global communities

Our Vision
To become a nationally recognized leader in studying and promoting healthy lifestyles. We will move one step closer to this vision when we occupy the state-of-the-art, Healthy Lifestyle Center devoted to research and promotion of healthy lifestyles.
